Virginia Medicaid Announces 12-Month Postpartum Coverage

Richmond – The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) today announced the Commonwealth has received federal approval to guarantee that Medicaid members can maintain their health coverage for 12 months following pregnancy. Currently, some Medicaid members lose access to care 60 days after the end of a pregnancy. The expanded coverage will enable new parents to receive critical postpartum care, an important step in improving health outcomes for both parents and babies.
