Overview

Virginia Medicaid provides an array of behavioral health and addiction and recovery treatment services through Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) (through CCC Plus and Medallion 4.0), and through the Behavioral Health Services Administrator, which are contracted by DMAS.  You can find notices related to regulatory and manual updates, including dates for public comment periods, are posted on the Virginia Regulatory Townhall Website at: http://www.townhall.virginia.gov

Coming Soon: Youth Re-Entry Targeted Case Management

We are pleased to announce that Re-entry Targeted Case Management (RTCM) are available as of July 1!

As we prepare for implementation, we are posting a draft version of the RTCM Manual Supplement to give providers an early opportunity to review the upcoming guidance and begin familiarizing themselves with the program.  Please note that this document is for informational purposes only and remains a draft until the final version is officially released.  We appreciate your patience and look forward to supporting providers as these new services become available.

New Process for Submitting Service Authorizations for All Behavioral Health and ARTS Services

The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is making significant changes to the process used to submit service authorization requests for Fee-for-Service (FFS) members. Effective November 1, 2023, all providers who provide services to Medicaid and FAMIS members will submit service authorizations to Acentra Health (formerly known as KePro).

Enhanced Behavioral Health and Addiction Services for Youth and Adults

Enhanced Behavioral Health services seek to keep Virginians well and thriving in their communities, reduce the need to focus on crisis by investing in prevention and early intervention for mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) comorbidities, and support a comprehensive alignment of services across the systems that serve Medicaid members.


Current Project BRAVO Rates

The budget passed during the August 2021 special session included a 12.5% increase for community based service providers starting July 1, 2021. Project BRAVO services were included in that rate increase. Project BRAVO services include the following services:

  • Mental Health Intensive Outpatient (S9480)
  • Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program (H0035)
  • Assertive Community Treatment (H0040)
  • Multisystemic Therapy (H2033)
  • Functional Family Therapy (H0036)
  • Mobile Crisis Response (H2011)
  • Community Stabilization (S9482)
  • 23-Hour Crisis Stabilization (S9485)
  • Residential Crisis Stabilization Unit (H2018)
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (97155, et al.)
