New 12-Months Continuous Coverage for Children

Effective January 1, 2024, Virginia Medicaid and FAMIS provide 12-months of continuous coverage to children under 19. This means that the coverage is protected and cannot be reduced or ended during that period, with limited exceptions. An annual renewal, or re-evaluation of eligibility, is conducted at the end of the continuous coverage period and a new 12-month coverage period will be granted if the child remains eligible.

Learn more about what has changed, the exceptions, and how this benefits Virginians in this flyer.

12-Months Postpartum Continuous Coverage

Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS members now receive guaranteed health coverage for 12 months following pregnancy. The expanded coverage enables new parents to receive critical postpartum care, an important step to improving health outcomes for birthing people and babies.

The Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Resources convened a Maternal Mental Health Lunch and Learn to continue the Administration’s efforts in making maternal health a priority.  Over 150 attendees from various stakeholder groups in the Commonwealth heard from industry experts on existing maternal mental health services available in Virginia to address maternal mental health.  You can view the Lunch and Learn video below...
